It is not often we review a hotel of this size, or of this budget range, so it was a welcome change to report on the Sweet Home Hotel, a cozy, budget style property, located in the Northeastern part of the city of Prague. The hotel is situated in a quiet street, with the entrance facing a small parkland, and surrounded by residential family homes. The Hotel is near a junction point; from where you can transit to any part of Prague. Two hundred metres away from the hotel is the "Hloubetín" Metro station. By Metro you canl reach the downtown area within fifteen minutes. The tram No. 3 gets you into the city center directly, in twenty minutes. A 5 minutes walk from the hotel is a sports center, with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, fitness center and massage facilities. The hotel, surprisingly for it's size, offers 24 hour reception. A lounge comes off the lobby area, where guests can mingle and pass the time away. The hotel staff is very accommodation, and friendly. They can assist with concert or theatre tickets, booking cabs, restaurants, arranging tours, or attending to email, fax services, and directing you on how to use the local train and bus services.. The hotel only has twelve rooms, broken into standard and luxury types. They also have in their inventory, two apartments. Each room has satellite TV, a safe and a mini-bar. The hotel has a cozy little restaurant called Home Rest, which operates for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menus for all three meal-times are extensive, offering a variety of international, as well as local dishes. The chef also offers to cook any non-menu dishes guests may ask for, providing he has an idea of what it is being requested. There is a very good wine list available for meals as well, and these, along with the food, are very, very reasonably priced. There is also an outdoor area of the restaurant called Home Garden, which is really nice on the warmer Summer days. Accommodation in Prague is inexpensive by most international standards, although in Eastern Europe it is not uncommon because of the exchange rates, and the fact that living costs in these countries, and salaries and wages are low. During the high seasons (1st April to 30th June, 1st September to 30th November, and 23rd to 27th of December) rates are usually around 20% higher than the mid-seasons (1st to 31st March, and 1st July to 31st August), and up to one third higher than the low seasons (3rd January to 28th February, and 1st to 22nd December). The Sweet Home Hotel is a great option for visitors looking to stay a little away from the city, but still having good transport facilities on standby. It is also a good alternative to the larger, perhaps more impersonal hotels, where the opportunity for interaction with guests is much less. The facilities are more limited, and the location is suburban, but the service is excellent, and as the hotel brochures say, the accommodation is cozy, and we can add, as comfortable as anywhere else.
