Malaysian PM urges Muslims to respect other religions

Kuala Lumpur, Sep. 8 : Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has urged Muslims to exercise religious tolerance and respect other communities as dictated in the Quran.

"Islam is a religion for all, and it enforces a universal concept that looks out for all races while also teaching us not to criticise other religions because it will only cause the others to criticise us even more," The Star Online quoted Razak, as saying.

Respecting other religions would help them win respect in return, he added.

Islam is a universal religion, and its followers should not hate people of any race or faith, especially if it could cause the latter to be treated unfairly, he added.

He said it was important for Muslims to closely look into the teachings during Ramadan.

The Prime Minister also called on them to learn that Ramadan and Malaysia's independence have to teach.

"Change is, therefore, not something new as it something that is even taught by Islam and (if we embrace it) can help bring success to our country," he said.

"So, let's look at how we can bring the change necessary to transform our country once again."
