Gulf national behind Kuwait letter bombs

Malaysia Sun Saturday 13th December, 2003

Letter bombs mailed from Lebanon and to Kuwaiti journalists were sent by someone from a Persian Gulf country, officials said.

The Kuwaiti News Agency Saturday quoted Lebanon's Public Prosecutor Adnan Addoum as saying the sender is believed to be in his 40s, has the complexion of Gulf citizens and spoke with a Gulf accent.

Addoun said Lebanese authorities are searching for the suspect who has mailed several letter bombs from a Beirut branch of Liban Poste in the past few days.

The letters were addressed to Kuwaiti journalists including the editor in chief of Kuwait's al-Siyassa newspaper, Ahmed Jarallah, who is known to be pro-American.

Addoum also left open the possibility that the sender might be Kuwaiti.
