Dhaka [Bangladesh], Nov. 23 (ANI): The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry has expressed "tremendous concern" over the ongoing persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar's Rakhine state.
Foreign Ministry Secretary (bilateral and consular) Kamrul Ahsan said that Myanmar envoy to Bangladesh, Myo Myint Than, was summoned on Wednesday afternoon to be informed about Dhaka's stance concerning the matter, reports the Dhaka Tribune.
The envoy, however, downplayed the scale of the problem, saying the news regarding persecution of Rohingyas is 'fabricated'.
Bangladesh handed over a letter to the envoy, asking his country's authorities to intervene so that people fleeing from the conflict can return to their homes.
In the 45-minute-long meeting, the Ministry also told the Myanmar envoy that Bangladesh is looking forward to a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict.
