SAKARDU, Pakistan - A group of Sherpa mountaineers arrived in Pakistan to climb the world's second-highest mountain during the winter season.
According to Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, expedition leader of the Taiwanese Winter K2 Expedition, the crew will guide Tseng Ko-Erh, who is attempting to become the first woman to climb Mt. K2 during the winter season.
"We are now at Sakardu and will leave for K2 base camp soon," Sherpa, who is also the managing director of Dolma Outdoor Expedition Pvt Ltd, said.
Tseng Ko-Erh, Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, Furu Sherpa, Chhiring Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Ngima Tendi Sherpa, and Ningma Dorje Tamang make up the team.
Tseng already climbed Mt Kanchenjunga in the previous spring season, becoming the first Taiwanese woman to do so. According to Sherpa, she had also climbed Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Manaslu, and Mt. Dhaulagiri.
"Tseng wants to be the youngest woman to climb all 14 peaks above 8000 m," Sherpa, who has achieved numerous mountain climbing records, stated that if successful, she will be the first woman climber to summit Mt K2 during the winter season.
