KANCHANPUR, Nepal - Kanchanpur, a southwestern Tarai district in Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal, has been severely impacted by floods and inundations over the last 24 hours.
Four people were reportedly killed in flood-related accidents, and approximately 900 families have been relocated in the district.
On Monday, floods washed out a Suda, Bedkot Municipality culvert, disrupting transportation along the East-West Highway.
According to the Kanchanpur District Police Office, four young girls drowned in flooding on Monday at Ratokhali, Punarbas Municipality Ward 5.
They all drowned while crossing a flooded road in the village.
The district's numerous communities have been swamped by relentless rain during the last two days. Floods in several rivers, including the Mahakali, have displaced 900 families in the district.
According to the Kanchanpur District Police Office, 3,293 people from 891 houses had been transported to safety as of Monday morning.
Displaced families are seeking sanctuary in ward offices and schools.
On Monday, the water level in the Mahakali River was high.
According to the Mahakali Basin Field Office in Attariya, part of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the station in Kanchanpur recorded 573 millimeters of rainfall in the last 24 hours, which was the highest recorded in the country.
