Agartala (Tripura) [India], April 26 (ANI): Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested five people in Tripura for their alleged involvement in human trafficking.
'Acting on a secret tip-off, the Agartala GRP Police in a joint operation with the 81st Battalion BSF, Sonamura Police Station, and Jatrapur Police Station, arrested five alleged human traffickers linked to two separate cases,' as per a release from Agartala GRP.
The operation was carried out early this morning across Kathalia Mura, Urmai, Majidabari, and Birampur areas.
The arrested individuals, who had been absconding for a long time, have been identified as Jalil Miah (41 years) and Md Hasan (31 years), both residents of Dhanpur Majidabari under Sonamura Police Station in Sepahijala District, along with Monir Hossain (37 years), Jashim Uddin (36 years), and Alamgir Hossain (37 years), all residents of Kathalia, Birampur under Jatrapur Police Station, Sepahijala District.
'A special team of Agartala GRP Police is currently interrogating them intensively, and it is expected that more arrests may follow in connection with the cases. The arrested individuals will be produced before the Court today with the police seeking appropriate remand for further investigation,' the release read.
On April 19, the Tripura Government Railway Police (GRP) in a joint operation with Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and the intelligence department apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, at Agartala Railway Station.
According to police, preliminary investigations suggest that all three had entered India illegally and were planning to travel further into southern states via train through Kolkata. Authorities suspect their movement was part of a broader human trafficking or illegal immigration network.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kamrun Nessa (23), a resident of Dhaka, and two men--Md. Ismail Hossain (22) and Md. Noor Hossain (25), both from Chittagong, Bangladesh. (ANI)
