BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's fisheries carnival offering a wide variety of fresh seafood such as fish, shrimp and squid is currently being held utill Sunday at the fish landing complex in Muara port town, local media reported on Friday.
According to the local daily Borneo Bulletin, high-quality marine-farmed fish by Brunei companies, such as barramundi and tilapia, are also on sale at the carnival.
Brunei's Muara Fish Port has been developed and operated since late 2020 by Muara Port Company (MPC) Sdn Bhd, a Brunei-China joint venture. The event attracted over 30 local fisheries-related businesses and vendors.
Brunei's Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism said the fisheries sector reported positive growth of 2.8 percent in 2024 compared to the year before. The capture fisheries output has increased from 128.3 million Brunei dollars (98.4 million U.S. dollars) in 2023 to 131.93 million Brunei dollars (101.43 million U.S. dollars) in 2024.
