VIENTIANE, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The streets of the Lao capital Vientiane were buzzing with colorful booths, and the city was awakening in full swing to embrace the golden glow of the beloved That Luang festival.

The annual festival will take place from Nov. 1 to 5, featuring a vibrant mix of cultural, religious and entertainment activities that celebrate the rich traditions and heritage of the Lao people. The festival aims not only to preserve Lao culture but also to promote tourism.

As part of the celebrations, a trade fair will feature about 2,370 booths, showcasing One District One Product goods, local food, tourism innovations, and items from neighboring countries.

Maysa, a local vendor in Vientiane, hopes to earn more during the festival when the city welcomes both domestic and international visitors.

"That Luang festival is one of the busiest times of the year for us," Maysa told Xinhua on Wednesday. "I hope to see many more visitors this year. It's not just good for my stall, but for hotels, restaurants, and transport businesses as well."

Maysa said that when visitors try local food, buy Lao-made products, or simply enjoy the festival, it helps promote appreciation for homegrown goods.

"Every year, the festival brings the city to life, with streets filled with laughter and music. I hope this year people will be even joyful. I am fully ready to welcome the world to experience Laos' beautiful traditions," she said.

Lao authorities will deploy around 2,015 police officers during the festival. Officers will be stationed at key sites, major intersections, and checkpoints across Vientiane to manage traffic and respond to emergencies.

Besides boosting income for businesses, the festival will also help create job opportunities.

"During the festival, I often pay extra to my workers and sometimes even hire a few more to help keep up with the crowd. I think this festival is also a chance to create more job opportunities for local people," Samard, a business owner in Vientiane, told Xinhua.

Samard added that the festival is a golden opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in Laos' culture and traditions through food, performances and other cultural activities.

Phayvanh, a resident of Vientiane, was eager to join in a traditional wax castle procession. She said that every year, she and her friends look forward to that moment. "Participating in the wax castle procession and giving alms to monks remind us of our traditions and connect us to our ancestors. It's time of reflection and joy all at once," she said.

Nounoy was also excited about the festival, particularly the lively atmosphere. "After spiritual activities, I plan to walk around, taste local food, and buy products, especially those made by Lao youth," Nounoy said.
