OG swept BetBoom Team to force a tiebreaker match for the final playoff spot out of Group A, only for BetBoom Team to prevail 2-1 and advance at DreamLeague Season 28 on Friday.
On the final day of Group Stage 1, BetBoom earned fourth place to join Aurora Gaming, PARIVISION and Team Liquid coming out of Group A. In Group B, Team Falcons earned a 2-0 win and Xtreme Gaming got a 1-1 draw to secure third and fourth, following MOUZ and Tundra Esports into the next stage.
The $1 million Dota 2 event features 16 teams, starting in a round-robin stage split into two groups of eight teams. All series consist of two games, and the top four teams from each group advance to Group Stage 2, a single round robin featuring best-of-three matches.
From there, four teams will compete in a double-elimination playoff bracket Feb. 28-March 1 with best-of-three matches until the grand final, which will be best-of-five.
The championship team will receive $250,000 in prize money and a $40,000 club reward. The runner-up side will get $100,000 and a $30,000 club reward.
On Friday, OG entered its scheduled match against BetBoom Team needing a victory to match them at 3-1-3 and force a best-of-three tiebreaker. OG prevailed in 36 minutes on green before a 64-minute marathon win on red. Erin Jasper 'Yopaj' Ferrer of the Philippines powered OG with a 12.5-1.5-12.0 average kills-deaths-assists differential.
In the ensuing tiebreaker match, BetBoom opened with a 50-minute win on green before OG answered in 42 minutes on green. The final map went nearly 62 minutes before BetBoom sealed the deal, playing on red. Danil 'gpk' Skutin of Russia led all players with 12 kills on the third map to lift BetBoom.
Aurora locked up first place in Group A despite settling for a 1-1 tie with Team Yandex. Second-place PARIVISION defeated Yakult Brothers in a mere 28 minutes on green and 30 minutes on red. Third-place Team Liquid won in 33 and 44 minutes, both on red, to blank paiN Gaming.
In Group B, Team Falcons defeated Tundra Esports in 63 minutes on red and 47 minutes on green. Stanislav 'Malr1ne' Potorak of Russia posted an average KDA of 18.0-2.5-15.0.
That result was crucial in getting Falcons to 3-3-1 (9-5 map record) and third in Group B. Xtreme Gaming drew with first-place MOUZ to get to fourth at 2-4-1 (8-6). Natus Vincere did what it could with a 2-0 win over Execration, but it only reached 3-1-3 (7-7) and missed the cut.
